It’s not just about cost… gearing up for the 3rd Annual Conference

The 3rd Annual CIPS Australia Conference is scheduled for 16-17 October 2007 at Crown Towers in Melbourne. A fully subscribed attendance of 600 participants is expected to attend to hear the views and experiences of an impressive line-up of international and domestically based keynote speakers. In addition, four seminar streams will offer 24 different seminar topics each directly or indirectly relevant to the central theme and the four sub themes of the conference.
The central theme of the conference is, “Its’ not just about cost!”
This begs the obvious question ‘what is it about then?’ Traditionally, the procurement profession has been seen as cost focused; latterly, focused on full-life time cost or total cost of ownership (TCO) more than up-front price. But these simple goals no longer do justice to the fastest growing profession in business. This conference suggests four possible new challenges for the profession. Four ways in which the profession may well be measured in future:
1. Influencing better outcomes – for the organisation;
2. Procurement led solutions;
3. Socially responsible procurement;
4. Improving organisational performance.
Each of the nine Key Note speakers and the 24 seminars on offer at the 3rd Annual CIPSA Conference will address, directly or indirectly, one of these four sub themes. For more information, or to register your interest, visit www.cipsaconferences.com.au

Regional nominations & awards judging underway.
Progress is well underway with the selection process for its Regional Chairs and Vice-Chairs. CIPSA is set to appoint new Chairs and Vice-Chairs for each of its seven regional branch committees throughout Australia and New Zealand to serve for two years from 1 October 2007. A number of impressive nominations have been received and are currently being considered.
The CIPS regions are the principal way CIPS seeks to build local communities of procurement professionals as a way to facilitate the dissemination and collation of professional knowledge and to enable peer-to-peer networking. The main role of the regions is to develop a regional networking community of procurement practitioners; host regional events; develop and manage a regional Business Plan, budget and commercial planning; ensure a code of ethics is adhered to and prevent conflicts of interest within the region; and promote the procurement profession and CIPSA activities.
CIPS is confident that the selection process will uncover great leaders for the regions who will collectively take the Institute to the next level. Expect some exciting announcements on www.cipsa.com.au soon.
Meanwhile, the judges of the Procurement Professional Awards 2007 are also toiling over the many nominations received.
