2 July Breakfast
Thank you to all who attended the "Minimising Global Procurement Costs/Maximising Local Procurement Opportunities" breakfast in Brisbane on 2 July. This was the biggest ever event in the QLD region, so well done for showing your support.
Breakfast Provides Food For Thought
CIPSA Queensland were delighted that 70 people attended its breakfast event at the Sebel Citigate on 2 July. CIPS was fortunate to attract two presenters with extensive knowledge and experience in industry assistance and supplier sourcing programs.
The event showcased strategies in minimizing global procurement costs and maximizing local procurement opportunities.
David Martin, Assistant State Manager for the Queensland State Office, outlined opportunities where the Australian Government’s business delivery division AusIndustry, is able to assist in minimizing business inputs. He provided valuable information to companies in relation to R&D tax concessions; the EPBS scheme which provides tariff duty concessions on eligible goods for significant projects and the Tradex scheme which provides companies with relief from Customs duty and GST on imported goods intended for re-export within 12 months and the new Clean Business Australia program.
In conjunction, Ben Matthews, Chief Engineer and Industrial Projects Manager with the Industry Capability Network Queensland (ICN) gave, for many present, their first real insight into the valuable service provided to government and the private sector by ICN.
Ben introduced guests to a network of suppliers in the Queensland region capable of supporting their businesses, as well as nationally through the ICN network. Hopefully, those in attendance are not only more aware of ICN’s services but appreciate the importance of making every effort to source locally based suppliers.
These presentations generated a forum for questions and answers. In fielding questions, some excellent examples of sourcing of local industry capability were provided.
The event also served as an opportunity for CIPS Australia to present an award to Griffith University in recognition of their Bachelor of Business (Logistics and Supply Chain Management) being granted MCIPS status. Graduates of this qualification who can evidence three years relevant work experience will be eligible to apply for MCIPS. The award was presented to Dr Louis Sanzogni, Head of the Department of Management, and Ron Fisher, a lecturer in the discipline. The first graduates of this course are expected in 2009.
With thanks to our sponsors. AusIndustry and ICN Queensland.
