The 4th CIPS Australia Annual Conference - Melbourne

14-15 October 2008

Crown Palladium, Melbourne

The Winning Formula

CIPSA 4th Annual CIPSA Conference – Programme out now

The Winning Formula
Plans are now finalised for the 4th annual CIPS Australia conference to be held at Crown Towers, Melbourne on 14-15 October 2008.

The theme for this year’s annual event is ‘The Winning Formula’. The conference will focus on exactly how procurement can gain true stakeholder buy-in to the profession’s wider contributions through genuine goal alignment in an ever changing and ever more challenging complex world? And not just through saving real costs.

Last year’s annual CIPS Australia conference addressed the question ‘It’s not just about cost’ – which begged the question: ‘What is it about then? Each keynote speaker addressed a different aspect of the benefi ts professional procurement can increasingly bring organisations.

This year, each keynote speaker will address their definition of ‘The Winning Formula’ for procurement to succeed in addressing the much tougher perennial question facing procurement managers today; exactly how to win genuine stakeholder buy-in, and keep it, in a changing world that is becoming more difficult to manage by the day.

The 4th CIPS Australia annual conference will be the biggest and best yet offering an unparalleled learning and networking opportunity for all levels of the profession. It will include:

  • Nine international quality key note speakers, including IBM global CPO, John Paterson.
  • 24 seminar presentations including four short CPO Agenda Masterclass seminars.
  • Procurement Professional awards dinner, featuring new CIPS CEO, Simon Sperryn.
  • ‘The Purchasing Exchange’ trade exhibition with 50 exhibitors expected.
  • Learning and networking with more than 500 procurement colleagues.
  • The CIPS Professional development surgery. These surgeries are for individuals to discuss their own circumstances privately with 15 minute appointments available to meet a member of the CIPS team.
  • Tuesday evening of 14 October will feature the Procurement Professional annual awards dinner, with 10 awards to be presented including the prestigious ‘CIPS Leadership Award’ to be presented by the new CIPS CEO, Simon Sperryn.

CIPS Australia’s managing director, Jonathan Dutton said, “Last year 560 people attended our annual conference, but this year we are hoping for even more. We would like to make it the largest professional procurement event in the world.”

This event will seek to define ‘The Winning Formula’ for success for the modern procurement manager often battling the reluctance of their organisation, the skepticism of colleagues and the ‘slings ‘n’ arrows’ of a changing world business environment. It will also redefine the greatest formula of them all: E=MC² but just for the procurement profession.

National Sustainable Procurement ConferenceTanya Ha

Author, TV presenter and respected environmentalist Tanya Ha will help kick off the Queensland Government’s National Sustainable Procurement Conference in Brisbane in September and will join an impressive line-up of local and international speakers.

Queensland Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten said the conference, which will be held from 18-19 September at the Hilton Hotel, is important to both the government and business sectors.

“Business leaders and governments are now clearly regarding sustainability as a strategic issue, and they recognise the important role that procurement plays in delivering sustainable solutions,” Mr Schwarten said.

“And the timing for the Queensland Government to host the conference coincides with recent changes to the State Procurement Policy that includes greater emphasis on sustainable procurement.”

The conference will provide a great opportunity to access the latest research and case studies of how sustainable procurement practices can be integrated into the workplace to deliver improved environmental, social and economic outcomes.

The theme of the conference is “integrate, connect, progress!” and outlines the three key focus areas for the event:

  • Integrating sustainability into procurement policy and practice
  • Understanding how buyers and suppliers need to “connect” or work together in order to develop products and markets that are environmentally and socially responsible
  • How to make real progress in moving sustainable procurement from policy to mainstream practice.

The conference will also provide information on the recently released State Procurement Sustainable ProcurementFramework by the Australian Procurement and Construction Council, a collective effort by all the governments of Australia and New Zealand.

This conference is the fourth in a series previously known as the National Buy Green Conferences held in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth since 2003.  It’s an event not to be missed by anyone serous about making progress with sustainable procurement.
